McCALEB DANCE News and Events
The mission of McCaleb Dance is to “foster the arts.” To that end, a recent company focus has been to support collaborative projects and professional and emerging choreographers through commissions and production support.
In 2008, the company collaborated with Sushi Performance and Visual Art and Bound Contemporary Dance to present Bottle Night, a monthly series of site-specific dance performances. McCaleb Dance commissioned four choreographers to create works for these performances. The choreographers were Sonya Tayeh, young Los Angeles wunderkind who is presently choreographing work for TV’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance;’ Yolande Snaith whose work has been performed throughout the UK and overseas; Leslie Seiters, director of Little Known Dance Theater and SDSU Dance faculty; and Peter Chu, a Julliard graduate who performs with Les Ballet de Jazz Montreal and whose work has been performed in theaters across America. He recently completed two years performing with Celine in Las Vegas.
McCaleb Dance partnered with Mexico dance producer, Mario Peralta, and provided production support to present the Concurso de Coreografias para Espacios Intimos, a festival of dance at the La Alborada performance space in Tijuana, presenting works by choreographers from both sides of the border.
We recently commissioned Bill T. Jones company dancer (and former McCaleb company member) Leah Cox, to create the solo “Joy of Place” for Eric Geiger. We also provided production support for new choreographies by Yolande Snaith, Elizabeth Swallow, Rebecca Bruno, Yvonne Hernandez, Sadie Weinberg, Greg Lane, and Ryan Orion Beck.
